DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Kigali City Tour
Pick up from your hotel in Kigali or from the airport and depending on your arrival time, a city tour will be on agaenda. Kigali city has a lot to offer in terms of the country’s historical heritage and culture. Visit the different sites / centers for an introductory experience to Rwanda. Get to visit the Kigali genocide memorial, the museums, Inema art center, craft shops, local markets among others. Lunch at a restaurant within the city.
Drive to the airport for your helicopter transfer to Nyungwe forest national park. Enjoy the scenic flight that will take about 40-45 minutes. Check in at your lodge from arrival and spend the rest of the day relaxing at leisure. Overnight at your lodge in Nyungwe.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest and Canopy walk
Highlight of any visit to Nyungwe forest national park, Chimpanzee trekking is carried in the early morning after a briefing from the park authorities. Groups of 8 tourists are sent into the forest per chimpanzee group which they get to spend about an hour with before returning back out of the forest. During the trek, look around for some beautiful bird sightings for the forest has a diverse birdlife.
Return to your lodge for lunch and some rest, later you will go for the thrilling Canopy walk for a different view of the forest from the top of the trees. Take time to stand still and listen to the sounds of the habitants of the Nyungwe forest especially the beautiful sounds from the birds. Overnight at your lodge in Nyungwe.
Day 3: Colobus monkey trekking in Nyungwe Forest national park
Nyungwe forest has a good population of black and white colobus monkeys and the Rwenzori colobus monkeys. Today you will head into the montane forest in search of these beautiful monkey species. Nyungwe is home to a number of other primate species which you are most likely to encounter during your trek, just keep on the lookout for those sightings and more. Have a relaxing evening and down time back at your lodge.
Day 4: End of Safari
Your last day in Nyungwe Forest national park. Optional activities for this morning include bird watching, guided nature walks and community visits. You will take your helicopter flight back to Kigali to connect with your home bound international flight.
