DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes national park

Your 5-day driver guide will pick you up from the airport or from your hotel in Kigali and take you on a Kigali city tour. Visit the Inema art center, Kigali genocide memorial among other tourist centers. Have your lunch and after drive to the airport for your helicopter transfer to Volcanoes national park. Check in at the lodge and later you could head out for a guided nature walk or short hike. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park takes place in the early morning after a briefing at the park’s headquarters. A group of 8 visitors led by a park ranger guide is assigned to a particular gorilla family which they will spend with an hour once they track it down. The guided trek usually takes 2-6 hours or more. Return to the lodge from the trek and have lunch. After some rest, you will go on a guided cultural tour to the Gorilla Guardians village, formerly Iby’iwacu village. Dinner and overnight back at your lodge.

Day 3: Helicopter transfer to Nyungwe Forest national park

After your breakfast you will visit the twin lakes, Lake Ruhondo and Lake Burera. Take a walk and enjoy the scenic views around the lakes. Optional activity this morning can be Golden monkey trekking. Take your helicopter flight to Nyungwe Forest national park, check in at your lodge, relax and in the afternoon after your lunch, drive to the Uwinka trail head and take on the amazing Canopy walk hanging 50 meters above the forest. Enjoy the views of the lush green Nyungwe forest from a different angle as you listen to the beautiful sounds of the birds that call the forest home. Overnight at your lodge

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest national park

Early rise to be in time for the briefing, tips and guidelines of chimpanzee trekking. Nyungwe forest is the best place you can see chimpanzees in their natural habitat in Rwanda. It’s a rewarding experience as the forest is home to many different primate species that you will be able to spot as you trek the chimpanzees and lots of bird species, therefore, be on the lookout.

After the trek, head back to your lodge for lunch and down time. You can choose to go for a guided nature walk or cultural tour. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: End of safari

Last day of your 5-day Rwanda gorillas and chimpanzee tour. After your breakfast and check out, you will be driven to the airstrip and take your helicopter flight back to Kigali for a drop at the airport to catch your flight back home.
