DETAILED ITINERARY RWANDA GORILLA SAFARI

Day 1: Pick up – Kigali Rwanda

Meet with your driver guide at the airport upon arrival who will drive you to your hotel for the night in Kigali city. Welcome to Rwanda.

Day 2: Helicopter flight to Akagera national park – Boat trip

Half day Kigali city tour to visit the Kigali genocide memorial, museums, local markets, art and crafts centers. Lunch in the city, drive to Kigali airport for your domestic flight to Akagera national park. After check in at your safari lodge, you will drive to Lake Ihema for a boat trip. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Game drives in Akagera national park

Explore Akagera national park on morning, afternoon and late evening or night game drives. You can opt for a hot air balloon safari. Look out for lions, zebras, giraffes, elephants, oribis, impalas, hyenas, leopards, rhinos, mongoose, buffalos and many bird species.

Day 4: Helicopter transfer to Nyungwe Forest national park

A morning game drive in Akagera or a guided walking safari for a chance to see what you might have missed out on day 3. Optional cultural tour in the communities near the park and then transfer to the home of chimpanzees, Nyungwe Forest national park. Overnight at the lodge in Nyungwe.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking – Canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest

The tour driver will drive you after breakfast to the briefing area at the park offices where you will meet other visitors and the park ranger who is going to guide you through the forest as you track the chimpanzees. These playful apes are a sight to see.

After the trekking experience, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and after some rest and relaxation, you will go for the famous Canopy walk on top of the Nyungwe forest. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 6: Colobus monkey trekking in Nyungwe Forest

An interesting Nyungwe forest experience, Colobus monkey trekking will see you track down a group of about 200 colobus monkeys. Starts with a briefing before you head into the forest.
After this activity, you will have the rest of the day to yourselves.

Day 7: Helicopter transfer to Volcanoes national park

After you breakfast the tour driver will take you to the airstrip for your flight to Volcanoes national park. A day of rest and recuperation. You can choose to take a walk in areas around your accommodation facility as you enjoy the views to get acquainted to the Volcanoes. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 8-9: Gorilla trekking and Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park

On days 8 and 9, you will get to meet the 2 endangered primate species that call Volcanoes national park home, that is the Golden monkeys and the Mountain gorillas. You will trek these 2 species on 2 different occasions. Both gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking take place in the early morning in groups of 8 visitors per trek. You will have tWo different experience on both treks as golden monkeys are more active than the mighty gorillas.

You will get a chance to visit the Gorilla Guardians village for a rewarding guided cultural tour and also a visit to the twin lakes near the Volcanoes national park.

Day 10-11: Lake Kivu

Time for some down time, relaxation and recharge as you reminisce about your time in Rwanda from day 1 all through to today. Beach relaxation and other activities incase you choose to take part, boat ride on Lake Kivu, kayaking, walking tour around Gisenyi among others. Relax and enjoy the scenic views of Lake Kivu. Overnight in Gisenyi.
