DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali-Rwanda and Pick up

Your assigned tour driver will meet you upon arrival at Kigali international airport, welcome you to Rwanda and then drive you to your hotel in Kigali city as he gives you a brief summary of your 10 days Rwanda safari. Overnight in Kigali

Day 2: Helicopter transfer to Akagera national park

Your tour driver will pick you after breakfast from your hotel in Kigali and you embark on a half day Kigali city tour visiting cultural and historical sites / centers like museums. Aftre the tour, you will be driven to the airport to take your helicopter flight to Akagera national park. You will have lunch at your lodge and later in the afternoon go on a boat trip on Lake Ihema where you will spot hippos, crocodiles and water birds like herons, kingfishers, African fish eagle, egrets among others. Optional activity, a night game drive. Return to your lodge for an overnight.

Day 3: Game drives in Akagera national park

Early morning rise, have breakfast and head out into the savannah wilderness of Akagera national park in search of its wild residents. You have a chance of spotting the famous Big 5, the lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos and leopards and other animals like the giraffes, zebras, hyenas, warthogs, oribis, waterbucks, bushbucks, impalas, monkeys and more.

Drive around different areas of the park, around the lake shores while enjoying the scenic views of the different landscapes in and around the park. Overnight back at your lodge.

Day 4: Helicopter transfer to Nyungwe Forest national park

A morning game drive and guided nature walk in Akagera national park. Optional activity, Hot air balloon safari, a great wilderness experience. In the early afternoon, take your helicopter flight to Nyungwe Forest national park which will take about 35-40 minutes. Check in at your lodge in Nyungwe, have lunch, kick back and relax and later in the day, you can opt for a leisure walk around the area. Overnight at your lodge in Nyungwe.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest

Early morning breakfast and then head to the forest for chimpanzee trekking after a briefing session at the park head offices. Nyungwe forest is home to various primate species, hundreds of beautiful bird species, different tree and plant species so, as you trek the playful chimpanzees, be aware of your surroundings for the forest has a lot to offer.

After your trek, drive back to your lodge for lunch and later in the afternoon, you will go for the Canopy walk to have a different view of the forest and its residents. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 6: Colobus monkey trekking in Nyungwe

Today you will set out in search of the beautiful black and white colobus monkeys and the Rwenzori colobus monkeys that call Nyungwe forest home and double your trek with a bird watching experience. After the trek, you will spend the rest of the day at leisure, you deserve to rest. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 7: Helicopter transfer to Volcanoes national park

Optional activities for the morning in Nyungwe forest national park include guided birding safari and nature walks to experience the montane forest one last time and or a community visit for a cultural tour. Check out of your lodge and take flight to Volcanoes national park in the North West of Rwanda. Overnight at your lodge in Volcanoes national park.

Day 8-9: Gorilla trekking and Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking and Golden monkey trekking are the most popular activities in Volcanoes national park. Both are endangered species with unique characters. Carried out in the early mornings after briefing from the park officials at the park’s headquarters. Enjoy the sight of these 2 species while on your 2-day visit in Volcanoes national park. Other activities you will during the 2 days include a cultural visit to the Gorilla Guardians village. A guided nature walk or a visit to the twin lakes, Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. Overnight at your lodge.

Day 10: End of Safari

Leisure morning, breakfast and helicopter flight back to Kigali where the 10-day Rwanda safari started from. Drop off at the airport for your flight back home marking the end to your Rwanda safari.
