DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Kigali to Akagera national park

Pick up from your hotel in Kigali and you will then proceed on a Kigali half day city tour visiting places like Kigali genocide memorial, national museum, Inema art center among others. Have lunch after the tour and then end to the airport for your helicopter transfer to Akagera national park where your safari guide will be waiting for you at Magashi airstrip to drive you to your safari camp for check in, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Game drive in Akagera national park

Wake up with the wildlife in Akagera national park before sunrise and head out for an early game drive for a chance to spot the early risers and or the Nocturnals of Akagera national park. Back to the lodge for breakfast and after head back out for a mid-morning game drive expecting to encounter elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, rhinos, lions, leopards, hyenas, different antelopes and more.
Lunch back at your lodge and later in the afternoon, you will go on boat trip on Lake Ihema where you will spot hippos, waterbucks, crocodiles and water birds. Return to your safari lodge for an overnight.

Day 3: Akagera national park to Volcanoes national park

After your morning breakfast, you will embark on one more game drive in Akagera national park for a chance to spot more wildlife. You can opt for a hot air balloon safari over Akagera, a guided nature walk or cultural tour. Check out of your lodge and then transfer to Volcanoes national park on a scenic helicopter flight landing at Musanze airstrip. Have lunch after checking in at your lodge and later on visit the Gorillas Guardian village for a Rwanda cultural experience. Overnight in Volcanoes national park.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

You will be up early and drive to the park’s headquarters. Here you will meet other travelers waiting for a briefing session about gorilla trekking. You will be put into groups of 8 people and then assigned to specific gorilla families for trekking. Head into the forest led by a ranger guide and start your hike up the volcano in search of the mountain gorillas. Spend an hour with them, get back and drive to your lodge for lunch. Spend the rest of the day at leisure relaxing at your lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali – Departure

Leisure morning, breakfast and check out. You can opt to go for a morning guides nature walk, visit the twin lakes or golden monkey trekking. Take your helicopter transfer flight to Kigali airport where you will catch your home bound flight. End of safari.
